Award for Excellence goes to Chesterton High School Student

Chesterton High School senior Sarah Jackett is a recipient of the Secondary Student Career and Technical Education Awards for Excellence from the Indiana Department of Education. The award will be presented at 1:00 p.m. on March 13, 2012, in a public ceremony at the Indiana Government Center South Auditorium in Indianapolis. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore to Burn Brush Piles

National Park Service firefighters will burn brush piles this winter at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The burn piles are at the national lakeshore's Mnoké Prairie on Beam Street west of US Highway 20. Approximately 100 piles of cut brush from prairie restoration work will be burned. Controlled burning of the brush piles in the winter months reduces the amount of hazardous fuels on the prairie in the dry spring months. Club FUNset Brings Kids Out to Sunset Hill Farm County Park

Camp FUNset at Sunset Hill Farm County ParkDuring the past year, Porter County Parks and Recreation has expanded its offerings to kids in the area. Camp FUNset welcomed hundreds of campers to Sunset Hill Farm County Park last summer and, during winter break, a two-day camp was offered for the first time. Cool Reads & Hot Chocolate: Young Adult and Adult Midwinter Reading Program

Young Adults (grades 6-9) and Adults are invited to Cool Reads & Hot Chocolate, Westchester Public Library’s 2012 winter reading program.   The program begins February 1 and ends February 26 at both Thomas Library, 200 W. The National Park Service has seasonal employment opportunities available for the summer of 2012 at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Applications are now being accepted for a variety of positions including Park Guides, Biological Science Technicians, Laborers and Custodial Workers. Most summer seasonal jobs run from mid-May to early-September and require work in an outdoor setting.
