The first decorated Christmas tree was in Riga, Latvia, in 1510. Mark Carr started the first retail Christmas tree lot in 1851 in New York. In 1856, Franklin Pierce was the first president to place a Christmas tree in the White House. President Calvin Coolidge started the National Christmas Tree lighting Ceremony on the White House lawn in 1923. PNC Offers Students the Ease of Express Enrollment

Purdue University North Central is offering new, transfer and returning students the ease of Express Enrollment. An Express Enrollment Day will be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. No appointments are necessary. Yost Holiday Market

The Yost Elementary School PTO will host their annual Yost Holiday Market on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the school featuring both retail vendors and those with a variety of handmade items including jewelry, candles, wooden toys, stationary, dog treats, Christmas décor! Events will also include pictures with Santa from Noon – 2 p.m., Santa’s Secret Shop for the kids to do their holiday shopping, and an Elf workshop for craft making. Food will be on sale as well... CHS Announces 37th Annual Madrigal Dinners

The Chesterton High School Music Department will present its 37th annual Madrigal Dinners on December 4, 5 and 6 in the school cafeteria. All seats are reserved and tickets are on sale for $30 per person at the CHS Music Office (Entrance 31) beginning on Monday, Nov. 23. Tickets will be sold from 7:30-10:45 a.m and 12:45-4:00 p.m. through Thursday, Dec. 3. No phone orders will be taken and there will be no exchanges or refunds.
