Kiwanis Collecting Old Cell Phones

The Duneland chapter of Kiwanis International is currently collecting used cell phones to assist in funding programs of the organization. Kiwanis is working with an organization that refurbishes the phones and makes them 911 capable for distribution at battered women's shelters.  Kiwanis has boxes for the used cell phones at several drop off points: 1st Source Bank, 1500 S Calumet Rd, Chesterton; Harris Bank, 502 E 1100 N, Chesterton; The Factory, 1050 Broadway, Chesterton; and the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce, 220 Broadway in Chesterton.

The Chesterton/Duneland Kiwanis club donates to several local community charities, most recent being the Frontline Foundations and Rebuilding Together. Pictured is newest Kiwanians Julie Paulson, Harris, Welsh and Lukmann and Sharon Nelson, 1st Source Bank, presenting a $500 check to Amber Hensell, President of Frontline Foundations. Kiwanis also kicks off its BUG (Bring Up Grades) program at Bailly Elementary this month, in which club members motivate students to improve grades for next quarter and offer incentives and excitement.

Chesterton/Duneland Kiwanis Club is a local community organization dedicated to developing future generations of leaders. Kiwanis locally fundraises to benefit local charities and implements educational and other kinds of programs to benefit and grow the Duneland community's youth.
