TweetArtwork by six Chesterton Middle School students is on exhibit at the Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton.
Kathryn and Ellen Brewer, Aryan Hunter, Liz Green, Jacob Read, and Allison Granat, along with other members of the CMS 8th grade Art Club and art teacher Jody Nix, visited the Westchester Township History Museum last May to view the museum's collection of artwork by present and past local artists.
The students learned about the artists and Chesterton's art-rich heritage. They also learned the basics of art criticism. Inspired by the museum's art appreciation/criticism exercise, the student artists later created their own paintings, depicting the area's natural beauty. A selection of their paintings will be on display through August 29.
Westchester Township History Museum, an educational and cultural service of Westchester Public Library, is open to the public free of charge Wednesday – Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. For more information, please call the museum at 983-9715.
